An interesting path, especially for who stay in Praiano o Vettica Maggiore (Praiano). You’ll do the most scenographic part of the traditional Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) with the S. Domenico convent bonus. Quite steep the path starts from about 100 mamsl (S. Gennaro’s church in Vettica Maggiore, Praiano) to 580 mamsl (Colle Serra crossroad). The steps here are everywhere and only if you feel really healthy you should do in hot day and you should think on it also in cool days too.
So, let’s start! from Vettica Maggiore, Praiano, just above the S. Gennaro’s church in piazzetta G. Gagliano where in less than 50m you’ll have: SITA bus stop, grocery, bars, tourism office and so on 🙂 ; leaving the seaside behind you get via Francesco Russo on the right, after few steps turn on the left in via degli Ulivi and again on the left at next crossroad, afterwards choose right on via Croce, this will end at the beginning of the path. After the fountain the stairs will bring you up of 200m of height to the Convent of S. Domenico (XV c.). Looking at the end of the coast the path on the left lays the trail to the Path of the Gods, take it, and keep left after the small natural arch. Pay attention on the exposed area and then, after few bends a gentle slope will end in a crossroad…

- go left, keeping the seaside on your left. About than 500m and you’ll find Cisternuolo crossroads, a sign indicates “Positano Nocelle”, keep right and go up. Watch your step sometime is quite slippery. You’ll go through a well marked path and then terraces, past the abandoned building watch your step in the rocky slope, at the end of wich Colle Serra junction lay. At crossroad keep left (choosing right means going back to the signboard indicating “Praiano Nocelle Positano”) on the main path where in less than 150m you’ll pass the pinnacle.
choose right for Bomerano (Agerola) or Praiano (left to Nocelle) keeping the seaside on your right. Less than 500m and you’ll find a crossroad with a sign indicating “Nocelle Positano Praiano”, keep the stone step on your left, then left again and finally right. You’ll reach a pinnacle in less than 150m.
Many bends across the terraces after the rocky pinnacle (just after 150m Colle Serra) you’ll reach Grotta del Biscotto, Bomerano is not so far, after some steps follow the asphalt road till you’ll find some steps on your right side, you can easily recognize because these steps will end in a wooden bridge. After it go left along the narrow street, pass under the bridge and after 250m you’ll finish: Piazza Capasso in Bomerano, the Agerola’s hamlet behind the Path of the Gods. Here you’ll find grocery, bars, a public fountain and many other useful things.
Once in Bomerano you’ll have three choices:
- 1st, reach the main road to Amalfi and then the SITA bus: this will bring you to Amalfi or Amalfi/Agerola crossroads and then the bus to Sorrento (Praiano and Positano also).
- 2nd, stay in Bomerano hamlet for lunch: there are restaurants or grocerys around the square, as we don’t take kickback (bribe) from anyone, we prefer to not publish any name.
- 3rd, enjoy the way back to Nocelle via the Path of Gods: maybe doing the higher trail instead of lower and vice versa. Here more informations.
This path start from point D and finish to A in the map below.
